Throughout history, regimes have used symbols as a show of power, as propaganda to strike fear abroad and at home. Today there is a new symbol, the Russian army ‘Z’ – that’s being used to show support for Putin and destructive values.
We began the search for The Peace Union Symbol when Russia began to establish and spread its ‘zwastika’. We were enraged, and wanted to support Ukraine by finding a symbol that was more powerful than the Z, but stood for support for Ukraine, human rights and peace. The idea is for the symbol to spread further than the Z, to show Putin that the world has had enough.
We asked some of the best design minds in our network and beyond to respond to the brief. The results were thoughtful and in some cases beautiful.
